From 6 April 2020 every employee and worker has a Day 1 Right to receive a written statement of their main terms and conditions of employment. The 2 month grace period for employees who will work for at least one month will be removed.
The new legislation also removes the ability to refer out to other documents such as an employee handbook, meaning certain key information must be included in the Principal Statement which must a single document.
The introduction of Parental Bereavement Leave and the increase in the holiday pay reference period from 12 to 52 weeks are other key employment law changes that will come into force in April 2020.
Penalties for Non Compliance
Penalties will be imposed on employers who fail to provide, or have incomplete or inaccurate Principal Statements by way of increased levels of compensation in the event of a successful tribunal claim.
It is important therefore not only to ensure that your Principal Statements are up to date today but that they remain up to date.

What Happens Next?
My report will explain which sections of your Employment Contract and Employee Handbook are not compliant with the new legislation and therefore putting your business at risk.
If you authorise me to bring your contract and employee handbook into line with the new legislation there will be an additional fee payable, my written report will confirm the fees and anticipated timescales for completion of the work.
